Stone Soup Restaurant is located in the foothills of the
Blue Ridge Mountains. Named after the folktale of the same
name, Stone Soup's philosophy is that of the belief that only
with the community's involvment can a restaurant succeed.

With this in mind, Stone Soup has created a casual fine dining
restaurant with an equestrian theme to incoporate the extensive
horse community in the Landrum SC/Tryon NC area. Many of
the restaurant's equestrian patrons have their pictures hanging
on the walls.

Owned by Suzanne Strickland, Stone Soup started out as an
epicurean food market that also had a handful of tables. It
was a great place for hard to find ingredients, cooking oils
and other items that customers would have normally have to
drive to a larger town for.

This was Suzanne's first experience in the restaurant business
and the market was successful but she felt she could do it
better. So she polled her regular customers and found out
they wanted a real restaurant. She doubled the size of the
orginal restaurant and added a bar. She also added a
covered outdoor dining area.

The idea was to make a visit to the restaurant seem like
dropping in on a good friend's home. The restaurant also
brings in Landrum, very much an equestrian community,
with photos of local riders and the nine foot bronze horse
and jockey that stands outside the restaurant.

Suzanne named the restaurant after the fairy tale which is a story of a community coming together. She thought it was a perfect name for a restaurant the she hoped would become a gathering place for the community and it has!
